Exodus 6v1-9

I’m preaching on Exodus 6v1-9 on Sunday. I intended, but never got round to writing a grammatical analysis of the passage. So I’ll upload my diagram and sermon outline instead.

Theme: Revelation of YHWH’s character through his actions enables his people to trust.

Aim: To trust in God in hard times because we know from his actions that he is trustworthy

Outline:

  1. God reveals his character (vv2-5)
  2. God reveals his character through his actions (vv6-8)
  3. Revelation of God’s character through his actions enables his people to trust (v9)

  1. I’m preaching this passage again this sunday (29th August) and have restructured the sermon points so they’re much better:

    1) Knowing God’s character helps his people trust (vv1-5)

    2) We know God’s character through his actions (vv6-9)

Much better, more consise, more understandable, memorable and applicable.

    • I’m preaching this passage (again) tomorrow (24/10/10) and I’ve changed my points again. I’ve added a third point:

      3) Our trustworthy God has promised future blessing (vv4, 5 8)

The final point picks up on the repeated emphasis on God’s promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob regarding the promised land. It is this promised that God highlights to Moses, showing that he has not forgotten it, and that he is trustworthy and will fulfil the promise.
